San Salvi’s Park has been used since 1400 as one of the largest Italian psychiatric hospital. Surrounded by ancient walls, it has been called “a city in the city”. We’ve been consulting for the now preserved unique park since 2000. The property occupies almost 74 acres and is organized in avenues, promenades, gardens and courts. It is one of our largest projects. We surveyed the entire area which includes almost 1500 trees dispersed among more than 40 buildings (7 million cubic feet) as well as all the other green areas. We mapped the real estate using digital cartography and creating special maps (see pics above) as well as prescribing operations required to save and improve the estate. We planned the park future using a dedicated tree database, old and modern aerial photographs (even extracting frames from a 1974 movie) and modern techniques such as VTA, SWT, and now GIS. We are implementing the landscape design with the owner, the Health Administration of Florence (under control of the Environmental Offices of the City of Florence and the Florentine Superintendence of Fine Arts). We’re working on new programs and projects: plantings and substitution of trees, coexistence with building renovations, preparing work instructions, surveys with brand new projects like internal paths, new gardens, et c.

Il Parco di San Salvi è il residuo del più grande ospedale psichiatrico della città. Circondato dalle antiche mura era ritenuto una “città nella città”. Con quasi 30 ettari di prati, giardini, corti interne, passeggiate e viali conta quasi 1500 alberi. Il nostro lavoro, sin dal 2000, ha portato al censimento di tutte le superfici, adesso protette, analizzando il verde esistente (anche usando fotogrammi estratti da un film del 1974) e organizzandolo su cartografia digitale (varie proprietà ed edifici, oltre 40, per quasi 200.000 mc, carta delle specie botaniche, carta degli interventi da noi prescritti), con tecniche varie, VTA, SWT, database dedicato e di recente GIS. Come consulenti operiamo con grande onore, anche civico, per la proprietà, l’Azienda Sanitaria Fiorentina, rapportandoci con l’Ufficio Ambiente del Comune di Firenze e la Sovrintendenza ai Beni Monumentali. Aiutiamo nella gestione e nella pianificazione delle diverse tematiche ambientali in diversi modi e fasi: programmi di sostituzione e messa a dimora di nuove alberature, moderni capitolati del verde, progetti speciali, controlli e direzioni lavori in quella che è una realtà Italiana unica
